Write the word, ‘True’ or ‘False’ beside each of the following statements:
11.    False    A player on the goal line is stationary while a team mate behind him kicks the ball into the net. The play is called offside.
12.    True    A player running along the touch line may step out of bounds to avoid a defender as long as the ball remains in the playing field.
13.    True    A player may not be called offside if they receive a pass directly from the corner kick.
14.    True    A referee signals a goal, then immediately realizes that the ball has not passed wholly over the line. A drop ball should be called and the goal disallowed.
15.    True    A player even with the last defenders, and outside of the penalty area runs toward the goalie during a goal kick. The player contacts the ball outside of the penalty area and kicks it into the net. The goal is allowed as this is NOT an offside offence.
16.    True    A goalie handles the ball, drops it to the ground, then picks it back up. The opposing team is awarded an indirect kick.
17.    False    A referee signals that an indirect kick is awarded to a team by pointing to the ground where the ball should be played and blowing the whistle.
18.    True    A player in an offside position but out of the area of active play is distracting a player from the defending team. The referee calls an offside against the attacking team.
19    False    A player in an offside position, but not involved in the play, runs back to an onside position, then immediately receives the ball. The play continues as the player is no longer offside.
20.    True    A referee allowing an advantage notices that the expected advantage does not occur. They should blow the whistle within 3 seconds on the original play.

Respond to each of the following situations by writing the call that should be made or ‘Allow play to continue’:

21. A defending player rushes to meet an attacker. The ball is struck but the defender’s momentum carries the player through to contact the attacker and knock the attacker down.
Answer: ‘Allow play to continue’

22. The goalie shoves an opposing player to the ground while the player is walking behind the net. The opposing player was not provoking the goalie and is obviously hurt by the incident.
Answer: The goalie receives a red card for violent behaviour. If play was stopped it continues with the original intention, otherwise there is a drop ball at the location where the ball was at the time of the incident

23. An indirect free kick is awarded to the attacking team while the ball was in play inside of the goal area. Where is the ball placed ? Where may the defending players stand ?
Answer: The ball is placed on the line marking the goal area closest to the spot that the incident occurred. The defenders may only be as close as the goal line.

24. During a kick off the player taking the kick strikes the ball a second time before it is touched by another player.
Answer: An indirect free kick is awarded to the opposing team.

25. A penalty kick must be retaken because the goalie moved forward during the first attempt. Another player steps forward to take the kick in place of the original player.
Answer: ‘Allow play to continue’. The second player may take the penalty shot.
